COLUMBUS, OHIO— Sun Devil Women’s Tennis kicked off their weekend in the Buckeye State with a 4-2 win over Kansas on Friday afternoon to advance to the championship match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend for the first time since 2020.
It was a battle between both schools as they traded doubles wins on Courts 1 and 2. The decisive doubles match came down to Marianna Argyrokastriti and Emilija Tverijonaite who picked up the 6-4 win to clinch the doubles point.
The Jayhawks got the first singles win on Court 4 to knot up the match 1-1. Argyrokastriti answered back for the Sun Devils in a three-set victory on Court 2 to regain the lead. For the second singles win, it came from Giulia Morlet on Court 1 with the second three-set victory of the afternoon. Kansas won on Court 2 to be back within one, 3-2, but Patricija Spaka clinched the match for the Sun Devils in a three-set victory.
