Wisconsin defeated by Northwestern, 5-2

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (1-16, 0-4 Big Ten) lost to the No. 64-ranked Northwestern Wildcats (8-14, 2-3 B1G), 5-2, in its match Friday, Apr. 5 inside Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Wisconsin started strong with its fourth doubles win of the season and first in Big Ten play. Matthew Fullerton/Collin Beduhn had a dominant performance at the No. 3 match, never trailing their opponents, Chad Miller/Saiprakash, and took a commanding 6-3 victory. On their neighboring court, Michael Minasyan/Gabriel Huber were played a competitive match against the No. 48-ranked doubles pair, Felix Nordby/Gleb Blekher. The match started tight, with each pair exchanging games, but eventually the Badgers took control. Similar to Wisconsin’s first match, Minasyan and Huber secured a 6-3 victory which solidified Wisconsin the doubles point. This halted a close match between Jason Hildebrandt/Tomas Zlatohavek and Northwestern’s Presley Theineman/Greyson Casey at the No. 2 match, leaving the score at 5-5. 

The Badgers went into singles play with the lead, but Northwestern came back with a strong showing. Zlatohlavek shined for the Badgers, winning straight sets against Greyson Casey in the No. 5 match, 6-3, 6-3, but was the lone Badger to win a singles match. 

Up Next: Wisconsin returns to Nielsen Tennis Stadium for its second match of the weekend Sunday, Apr. 7 as it hosts No. 26 Illinois. First serve will be at 2 p.m.
