BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (1-19, 0-7 B1G) lost to No. 69-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (15-9, 3-4 B1G), 5-2, in its match Sunday, Apr. 14 at the IU Tennis Center.

The match began with Wisconsin playing Gabriel Huber/Michael Minasyan at match No. 1 and a new pair of Matthew Fullerton/Tomas Zlatohlavek at match No. 2. The Badgers did not compete a No. 3 doubles pair due to injury, and instead chose to forfeit that match. With Indiana needing just one victory to secure the doubles point, they did so as Sam Landau/Carson Haskins won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2. This halted Huber/Minasyan’s match and gave Indiana the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Due to an injury sustained in Friday’s match against Penn State, graduate student Jason Hildebrandt did not compete for the Badgers, causing them to forfeit No. 6 singles. The first match to wrap up was No. 1 singles between Minasyan and Yunis, with Indiana winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. The Badgers responded with a win of their own, with Zlatohalvek defeating Tiraspolsky, 6-4, 6-2 for his first win in the No. 4 spot. Unfortunately, Indiana’s No. 74-ranked Landau got the next win for Indiana, defeating Huber 6-1, 6-3, and claiming the Hoosiers’ fourth point of the afternoon. The teams continued to play out the match, allowing Beduhn to complete his come-from-behind victory. The freshman rallied back after dropping the first set, 6-4, and won sets two and three, 6-1 and 1-0 (10-3). The final match of the day came down to Fullerton and Saylor at singles No. 3. Similar to No. 5 singles, the match entered into a 10 point tiebreak in set three, with Indiana winning a close one, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).

Up Next: Wisconsin returns home to Nielsen Tennis Stadium for its final weekend of regular season tennis to face Penn State on Friday, Apr. 19, and No. 1 Ohio State on Sunday, Apr. 21. First serve against the Nittany Lions will commence at 4 p.m., followed by a noon start against the Buckeyes.
