Vols Ink Transfer Alex Kotzen for 2024-25


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Alex Kotzen has signed with the Tennessee men’s tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2024-25 campaign, head coach Chris Woodruff announced Tuesday.
 
Kotzen, a graduate transfer from Columbia University, holds a career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 7 (2/24/22) and a current ATP singles ranking of 807. 
 
With a UTR of 13.53, Kotzen has totaled a 61-28 singles record during his three seasons with the Lions, most notably notching a 14-3 record at the top spot for Columbia during the 2021-22 dual match season. In doubles play, he posted an impressive 16-5 record in 2022-23. He was named 2019-20 Northeast Rookie of the Year, unanimous First Team All-Ivy in 2021-22 and Second Team All-Ivy during the 2022-23 season. 
 
“We would like to welcome Alex to our program,” Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff said. “He is a terrific player that will make an immediate impact on our team. He’s experienced, strong minded and has a penchant for improvement. Our team will greatly benefit from his presence.”
 
Before his time at Columbia, Kotzen attended high school at Newark Academy where he won both team and individual state championships in the state of New Jersey. The New York City native participated in competitive ski racing, ranking 10th in the state in 2013.
