No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 5 Pepperdine in NCAA Super Regional

MALIBU – USC’s dual match season came to a close on Friday, May 10 as the No. 11 seeded Trojans fell to No. 6 seed Pepperdine during the NCAA Round of 16 at the Ralphs-Strauss Tennis Center. The loss marks the Trojans 15th straight to the Waves.  

With the loss, USC officially wraps up the 2023-24 season 20-9 overall, the Trojans third 20-win season under head coach Alison Swain

USC recorded a massive victory on center court to kick off doubles, as Eryn Cayetano and Lily Fairclough downed the No. 2 ranked duo of Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen 6-3. The Waves fought black claiming court two 6-4 over USC’s No. 60 ranked Grace Piper and Parker Fry. With all eyes on court three, Trojans Emma Charney and Snow Han would come up short in a tiebreak, falling 7-6(8-6) to Anna Campana and Lisa Zaar. 

Moving into singles play, USC struggled to gain momentum, losing first sets on all six courts. Pepperdine’s second point of the day came on court six as Vivian Yang downed McKenna Koenig 6-2, 6-0. Next, No. 99 ranked Snow Han fell to No. 15 Lisa Zaar 6-1, 6-3 on center court. Pepperdine’s clinch came on court four as No. 97 Eryn Cayetano lost to No. 12 ranked Savannah Broadus 6-0, 7-5.

USC now turns their attention to the upcoming NCAA Singles Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where Trojans Emma Charney and Grace Piper were selected to compete individually. Additionally, Trojans Charney and Eryn Cayetano earned placement into the NCAA Doubles Championship.
