SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Three members of the Vanderbilt men’s tennis team competed in the Bobby Bayliss Invitational hosted by Notre Dame over the weekend. The tournament included players from DePaul, Drake, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue, Vanderbilt and Western Michigan.
Fifth-year student-athlete Callum Rendle won twice on Saturday over Indiana, fighting back from a set down to defeat Nishanth Basavareddy and teaming up with sophomore Mitchell Deames to down Basavareddy and Andrew Meier. Deames fell in a match tiebreak to Western Michigan’s Matej Kajzer.
Sunday, Rendle and Deames fell to opponents from Purdue and Notre Dame, respectively. On Friday, Dore freshman Oscar Jensen raced to take the first set in each of his two singles matches before dropping the second and narrowly falling in each match tiebreak.
Up next for the Dores is the ITA Regional Championship, Oct. 12-16 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
