Utah Defeats Oregon 4-1 – University of Utah Athletics

Eugene, Ore. – The Utah men secured another victory this season, this time against the Oregon Ducks to start off conference play. Utah now claims an impressive streak of 14 consecutive victories this season.

As doubles play began, the Utes looked to secure the advantage early on. Despite their efforts, the squad faced some tough competition and dropped the point. On court one, Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac fell 6-4 to Oregon’s Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele. On court two, Franco Capalbo and Geronimo Espin Busleiman also fell to the Oregon tandem 6-4, granting the Ducks the first point of the match. On court three the match remained unfinished.

Moving into singles play, the Utah men looked to dominate the courts to secure a victory for the team. Utah’s first point came on court five where Bugarikj defeated Luke Vandecasteele in a swift 6-2, 6-2 match. After a tough three-set battle on court four Caula also came out victorious against the Ducks’ Vlad Breazu, finishing 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.

The Utes’ third point came on court two, where Capalbo took the upper hand against Quinn Vandecasteele, upsetting 7-6(9-7), 6-4.

The clinching point was obtained on court one as Busleiman battled it out with Joshua Charlton for a 6-4, 7-6(7-2) victory and another win for Utah. Matches on courts three and six remained unfinished.

 

UP NEXT

The squad will continue their Pacific Northwest road trip with a match against the Washington Huskies on Sunday, Mar. 26. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. MT.
