The No. 3 seeded Utah men’s tennis team advances to the Pac-12 Tournament Finals for the first time in school history after downing No. 2 seed Arizona with a 4-3 score.
The doubles round was no easy feat for the Utes. Arizona picked up a win in the No. 2 doubles spot to start things off.
In the No. 3 spot, Bruno Caula and Francisco Bastias picked up a 7-5 win over Gustaf Strom and Eric Padgham. The doubles point came down to the No. 1 spot where Patrik Trhac and Berk Bugarikj went into a tie break and came out victorious with a 7-6 (7-3) win over Jay Friend and Jonas Ziverts.
Arizona quickly picked up wins in the No. 1 and No. 4 spots. Trhac was the first Ute to get a win in singles action as he downed Friend in the No. 5 spot with 6-0, 6-4 scores.
With the overall match tied at 2-2, the Wildcats picked up another win in the No. 3 spot to edge them ahead of Utah 3-2.
Bruno Krenn came up big for the Utes in the No. 6 spot. He defeated Nick Lagaev 6-2 in the first set but fell 1-6 in the second set. Krenn’s match came down to the third set where Krenn came up with a 7-5 win.
The match came down to the No. 2 spot where Busleiman went into three sets with Ziverts. Busleiman picked up a 6-4 win in the first set and lost 7-6 in the second set. He wasted no time claiming the win in the third set as he took down Ziverts 6-1. Busleiman’s win in the No. 2 spot gave Utah a 4-3 win over Arizona.
Utah now has a 23-4 overall record on the season and are set to take on No. 1 seed USC in the finals April 29 at 7 p.m. (MT) in Ojai, Calif.
