CHICAGO, Ill. — The No. 4-ranked University of Michigan men’s tennis team knocked off defending national champion No. 5-ranked University of Virginia, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the ITA indoor national championships on Saturday (Feb. 18) at XS Tennis Village.

The Wolverines, now 12-0, will face Texas in tomorrow’s semifinal at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Michigan started by capturing the doubles point, its 10th doubles point in 12 matches this season. Patrick Maloney and Ondrej Styler improved to 7-1 in dual doubles with a 6-3 win over Virginia’s Inaki Montes de la Torre and William Woodall. Making his season debut, Nino Ehrenschneider partnered with Will Cooksey to take down Alexander Kiefer and Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg, 6-3, and clinch the doubles win for Michigan.

With the doubles point in hand, No. 7-ranked Andrew Fenty made it 2-0 Michigan in a dominating victory over No. 70-ranked Inaki Montes de La Torre at No. 1 singles.

No. 20-ranked Ondrej Styler improved his record to 8-1 in dual play after capturing a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 30 Jeffrey Von Der Schulenburg at No. 3 singles.

Will Cooksey won his second straight match at the ITA Indoors with a of 6-4, 6-3 win against Mans Dahlberg that sealed the 4-0 win for the Wolverines.

Maloney, who remains undefeated, and Gavin Young along with Jacob Bickersteth were mid-match when play was halted.
