COLLEGE PARK, MD — The University of Maryland women’s tennis program announced the signing of Tamari Gagoshidze on Friday. The junior transfer from Kansas will join the Terrapins for the 2024-25 season.
“We’re extremely excited to welcome Tata to Maryland next year, she brings loads of international experience and 2 years competing in the Big 12,” said Head Coach Katie Dougherty. “Her maturity and passion shone through to us in the recruiting process… we expect Tata to make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles line-ups.”
Gagoshidze comes to Maryland with a career college record of 17-21 in doubles and 11-20 in singles. In the 2023-24 year with Kansas, Gagoshidze went 4-6 in doubles and 2-8 in singles competition.
From Tbilisi, Georgia, Gagoshidze signed with Kansas in June 2022, joining the team as a freshman for the 2022-2023 season.
During her juniors career, Gagoshidze won 8 ITF titles, was ranked No. 1 in Georgia’s U18 rankings, was ranked as high as No. 229 in the ITF Junior rankings and No. 1,198 in the women’s WTA rankings.
“I chose the University of Maryland because of its exceptional tennis program and coaches, as well as its outstanding academic reputation,” said Gagoshidze.
