Tennis Set To Close Out Regular Season With Matches in Mississippi


COLUMBIA, Mo. — The University of Missouri, with a 5-19 record for the 2024 season, is gearing up to close the regular season with two matches in the Magnolia State. The Tigers, still in search of their first SEC victory, are set to face off at No. 38 Ole Miss on Friday, April 12, at 3 p.m. CT. They will then head to Mississippi State for a match on Sunday, April 14, at Noon CT. This final weekend of regular season play is a testament to the team’s unwavering determination and commitment. 

The Tigers are riding high on a recent 5-2 victory against Saint Louis University on senior day, marking a triumphant end to the home matches for the 2024 season. The team swiftly secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three by duos Mae Canete/junior Inah Canete and graduate student Emelie Schwarte/sophomore Andrea Artimedi, respectively. Senior Romary Cardenas Rifka’s high-energy singles win on court six, with her first set tied 6-6, she clinched the set with a 9-7 tiebreak. Her 6-3 win in the second set clinched the win, leading the Tigers to a 5-2 victory over SLU. This win is a testament to the team’s hard work and potential for success in the upcoming matches.

Ole Miss currently sits at a 10-9 record for the season and has four SEC wins and seven losses under their belt, falling most recently at No. 7 Georgia, 4-0. The Rebel’s top doubles pairing of Ava Hrastar and Briana Crowley is ranked No. 62 by the ITA with their 10-12 record. Beginning their series record in 2013, Mizzou is down 10-1 to Ole Miss and is looking to secure their second win against the Rebels. 

Mississippi State walks into the weekend with a 10-14 record for 2024 and is still searching for its first SEC win, entering the last push of the regular season. The Bulldogs most recently dropped at the No. 18 Tennessee Volunteers, 6-1. Opening the series record when the Tigers joined the SEC, Mississippi State holds the record with nine wins to four losses to Mizzou.
