NEWPORT, R.I. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team continued its run at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday.
The Scarlet Knights found success on day two, taking home three totals wins over the course of two rounds of play. Each of RU’s two doubles teams played in two consolation matches.
In Rutgers first set of matches, Arina Valitova and Daira Cardenas took on Morgan Coburn and Avantika Willy of Georgetown, while Chloe Brown and Minchae Kim faced Priyanka Shanker and Blake Rothchild of Rhode Island.
Both duos of Scarlet Knights earned wins in round two, with Valitova and Cardenas earning an 8-4 victory, and Brown and Kim downing their opponent, 8-3.
Rutgers took on Georgetown for the third time in the event, as well as George Washington, in the tournament’s third round.
Valitova and Cardenas battled, but ultimately fell to the Hoya’s Paige Gilbert and Ashley Kennedy, 2-6, 6-4, 10-6.
In the Scarlet Knight’s final match, Brown and Kim cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over George Washington’s Stella Wisemann and Isabella Giraldo to cap off the successful day two.
