Tennis Closes Sunday Doubleheader With Win Over Lindenwood

COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of Missouri tennis earns one win in doubleheader action on Sunday, March 3, with a win against the Lindenwood Lions, 4-0, at the Green Tennis Center. Mizzou had an early morning loss at the Country Club of Missouri to No. 20 University of Tennessee, 4-0. With this weekend’s home opener, the Tigers walk away with two SEC matches under their belt and a 4-10 record for the young season.

The Tigers began the day with doubles play against the Volunteers at 9 a.m. and could not pull away with the doubles point. Heading into singles play, senior Mae Canete battled in a back-and-forth match in the No. 1 spot against the No. 23 ranked athlete, but the match went unfinished at 6-3, 3-6. 

Mizzou turned it on for their afternoon match against the Lions at 4 p.m., dominating in doubles play to grab an early lead. In the No. 1 spot, the duo of M. Canete and junior Inah Canete forced Lindenwood into a shutout, 6-0, marking the No. 24 ranked pair’s second lights-out match of the weekend against the Lions. The doubles team of sophomore Andrea Artimedi and graduate student Emelie Schwarte topped Lindenwood in the No. 3 spot.  

The team continued the momentum into singles play, with both Canete sisters going 6-0 in both sets against Lindenwood in the No. 1 and 2 spot. Artimedi threw it down in the No. 4 spot and collected the final point for the Tigers (6-0, 6-4), clinching the win against the Lions.
