KNOXVILLE Tenn. – The Tennessee women’s tennis team wrapped up action on the second day of competition at the UT Home Invitational.
“The message to the team today is we have to find clarity and understand exactly who we are before we go and compete tomorrow,” head coach Alison Ojeda said.
In singles, a trio of Lady Vols claimed victories over their select opponents. Leyla Britez Risso notched a 6-0, 6-1 win against Ohio State’s Teah Chavez. Vanesa Suarez defeated Ohio State’s Audrey Spencer in a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 result. Saray Yli-Piipari etched a 6-4, 6-7(2), 6-4 win against Arizona State’s Aiya Nupbay.
“Vanesa (Suarez) is doing a fantastic job of taking her film sessions and implementing that into practice,” Ojeda shared. “She is looking good! I think there are areas where we are seeing good stuff and we have to improve and keep it up. Then there are a lot of areas where we have a lot of work to do.”
In doubles, each of the Tennessee duos fell to their respective foes.
Tennessee will be back in action Sunday morning with doubles are slated for 9 a.m., followed by singles at noon.
