Tech Drops Match to #39 NC State – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team (9-7, 0-2 ACC) concluded the weekend with a 4-2 loss against No. 39 NC State (8-4, 2-0 ACC).

NC State claimed the doubles point after two straight wins over the Jackets. Before the conclusion of doubles, #21 Andres Martin and Marcus McDaniel were leading 5-2 against No. 39 Rafa Iziquierdo Luque and Joseph Wayand.

Tech won two out of the five finalized singles matches. No. 34 Martin was the first Jackets to finish his singles match. He defeated No. 75 Iziquierdo Luque in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and tied the teams at 1-1.

Tech briefly took a 2-1 lead after No. 47 McDaniel’s 6-4, 6-1 victory over NC State’s Salvestre. NC State ultimately clinched the team win with singles victories at the No. 3, 4 and 6 positions. Although Tech loss the match, Elias Shokry had earned a 7-5 in his second set of play to force a third set but the match went unfinished.
