Jackets Fall at Wake Forest, 4-2 – Women's Tennis — Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 19 Georgia Tech women’s tennis fell in a 4-2 decision on Sunday at No. 29 Wake Forest. Carol Lee and Mahak Jain captured singles victories for the Yellow Jackets. The loss moved Tech to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

Wake Forest won all three doubles matches, two coming in tiebreak decisions, to take the early match lead. The Demon Deacons took court three, 6-4, to gain the edge in doubles before the point was clinched in a tight tiebreak on court one. No. 20 Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth faced Tech’s Lee and Kate Sharabura in a back-and-forth battle that came down to a 6-all standstill. The Jackets held match point at 7-6 in the tiebreak, but the Deacons won three of the next four points to clinch the doubles point, 7-6 (9-7). Wake Forest also won on court two, 7-6 (7-4), to complete the sweep of doubles.

Jain put Georgia Tech on the scoreboard, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Nevena Carton on court four. After collecting the first set, 6-1, Jain won four straight games to take the second set, 6-3, and even the match at 1-1.

Wake Forest and Georgia Tech exchanged the next two matches to setup a 2-2 tally. Whitley Pate edged Rosie Garcia Gross, 6-4, 6-4, before Lee notched Tech’s second singles win of the afternoon on court one. Facing No. 39 Wooten, Lee won a hard-fought first set in a tiebreak. At 6-all in the breaker, Lee held two set points before taking the opener, 7-6 (7). Lee cruised in the second set, opening with a 3-0 advantage, and closed the set, 6-2.

But the Demon Deacons won the next two singles matches to clinch the victory. Despite battling back to split sets on court three, Alejandra Cruz dropped a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 decision to Killingsworth before Maddie Lynch sealed the win on court six over Ruth Marsh, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, for the 4-2 victory. Kylie Bilchev led Brylin on court two, 6-3, 3-6, 6-5, before play was suspended.
