TEMPE, Ariz. – Six visiting teams joined the Sun Devils at the Whiteman Tennis Center for blue skies and a full slate of tennis on Friday for Day 1 of the annual Thunderbird Invitational.
The four Sun Devils competing this week – Giulia Morlet, Sedona Gallagher, Marianna Argyrokastriti and Rachel Hanford – couldn’t have opened in stronger fashion, as each were triumphant in their respective singles matches.
SUN DEVIL SINGLES
- Giulia Morlet (ASU) def. Valentina Ivanov (California), 7-5, 6-4
- Rachel Hanford (ASU) def. Erin Richardson (California), 6-1, 6-4
- Marianna Argyrokastriti (ASU) def. Elizabeth Goldsmith (San Diego), 6-0, 7-5
- Sedona Gallagher (ASU) def. Claudia De Las Heras Armenteras (San Diego), 6-4, 6-2
In the morning doubles session, the team split its two matches, as Morlet/Gallagher edged a Michigan tandem and Argyrokastriti/Hanford were bested by an Auburn pair.
