Slavic and Engelhardt Both Nab Places in the 2022 ITA Preseason Rankings

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss men’s tennis saw a pair of Rebels make their way onto the 2022-23 ITA Preseason Rankings as released by the ITA on Tuesday, with Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt both receiving preseason rankings to open the 2022 fall season.

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its full list of singles, doubles and newcomer rankings for men’s Division I college tennis, where reigning All-American Nikola Slavic received a season-opening ranking of No. 6 in the country in singles, while the doubles pairing of Slavic and Engelhardt earned the No. 46 doubles ranking in the nation.

This marks the highest singles ranking of Slavic’s Rebel career, coming off of a 2021-22 season in which he reached a peak singles ranking of No. 14 in the country. Slavic logged a 22-13 record in singles play for Ole Miss, playing predominantly in the No. 1 singles position for the team.

Slavic will now look to follow up a 2021-22 campaign in which he claimed the 2021 ITA Southern Regional Singles Championship, received All-SEC honors for the second consecutive year and was named the 32nd All-American in Ole Miss men’s tennis program history.

Meanwhile in the ITA doubles rankings, Slavic and teammate Lukas Engelhardt secured the position of the No. 46 doubles pairing in the country heading into 2022-23. This follows a 2021-22 season in which Slavic saw a peak doubles ranking of 36th overall (Sept. 7, 2021), while Engelhardt reached as high as being ranked second in the nation in doubles playing alongside Rebel All-American Finn Reynolds.

Slavic comes off of a year where he netted a doubles record of 18-8 on the season, playing primarily in the No. 3 doubles spot for Ole Miss. Engelhardt finished his 2021-22 season with a doubles record of 19-13 on the year, playing as a member of the Rebels’ No. 1 doubles pairing.

The 2022-23 Rebel squad, headlined by Slavic and Engelhardt, will look to get their 2022 fall season underway later this month, as members of the team are set to travel to Nashville, Tennessee for the Commodore Invitational, which will run Sept. 23-25.
