Shvets Nets 100th Win as No. 20 Duke Defeats Virginia Tech, 6-1

DURHAM – Duke women’s tennis graduate student Brianna Shvets collected her 100th career win on Friday evening as the 20th-ranked Blue Devils posted a 6-1 victory over Virginia Tech at Ambler Tennis Stadium. 
 
Shvets, a product of Pennington, N.J., became the 29th Blue Devil to reach the 100-win ledger and joins fellow graduate student Iuliia Bryzgalova, who also netted 100 victories over the last couple of weeks. 
 
Duke improved to 13-6 overall, 6-4 in the ACC, while Virginia Tech fell to 8-10, 3-7 in the ACC. 
 
How It Happened

• Duke came out in doubles and won the first seven games over the three courts.
• The Blue Devil duo of Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd were impressive as they registered a 6-0 victory over 75th-ranked Semra Aksu and Erika Cheng.The match took only 23 minutes.
• Duke’s tandem of Brianna Shvets and Iuliia Bryzgalova jumped ahead 2-0 and then eventually won, 6-2, against Katie Andreini and Sabina Richtrova to clinch the doubles point.
• Emma Jackson and Karolina Berankova were leading, 4-3, against the Hokies’ Charlotte Cartledge and Ozlem Uslu when the point was clinched.
• In singles, the Blue Devils won five of the six first sets to open action.
• Kimchi, who is ranked No. 69 nationally, put the second point on the board for Duke with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Andreini on court two.
• The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead as 101st-ranked Codd netted a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tamara Barad Itzhaki on court four.
