GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Men’s Tennis Assistant Coach Scott Perelman will be leaving the program after 12 seasons. Perelman spent his first 11 seasons as the Gators’ volunteer assistant coach before being promoted to assistant coach prior to the 2023-24 season.
“Coach P is truly a legend,” Gators Head Coach Adam Steinberg said. “I am so grateful for his friendship and the opportunity to coach with him for his last year at Florida. His impact during these twelve years will be felt for a long time, and on behalf of Gator Nation, we want to wish him and Cindy the best in their next venture.”
During his career at Florida, Perelman helped coach two players to NCAA Individual singles titles (Sam Riffice in 2021 and Ben Shelton in 2022), led the program to its first national championship in 2021, and assisted in guiding the Gators to three straight SEC Championships, going undefeated in the SEC in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
Hired by Coach Bryan Shelton in 2012, Perelman was a fixture of the program through Shelton’s entire tenure and was retained and promoted to assistant coach by Head Coach Adam Steinberg when Steinberg took over the program prior to the 2023-24 season.
The Monroe, Mich. native’s coaching career began at Ball State, his alma mater, as a graduate assistant coach in 1979, and includes stops at Kansas, Tennessee, Toledo, and North Carolina.
From Assistant Coach Scott Perelman
“On behalf of myself and our family, I would like to thank Gator Nation for twelve of the best years of my coaching career. A huge “thank you” to Coach Shelton for bringing me here and Coach Steinberg for keeping me here. One of the true joys of working at Florida is the people you meet and work alongside.
Working with Kate Harte and Monica Garza has been fun and wonderful. Going to work every day with assistant coaches (Amer) Delic, (Mark) Merklein, (Tanner) Stump and, most recently, Mat Cloer, has been an honor and a privilege. My walking partner, Beca Maynor, is a joy to talk to and a very special young lady. Our tennis boosters, led by Mike Hoctor and Bill Bellote, are second to none. As a coach, you are nothing without players. At Florida, we have had the best of the best. Helping each one of them in a small way has been a highlight of my time in Gainesville.
