UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- The Penn State women’s tennis team (3-3) come out victorious on the road against James Madison (1-3) on Saturday afternoon.
“Today was a great matchup against JMU. We came out strong and secured the doubles point. Although they brought grit to the court, we were able to bring out the energy to come out on top,” said Danielle Alamo. “We are looking forward to bringing energy the rest of the season.”
Doubles
The Nittany Lions won the doubles point over James Madison, earning an early lead, 1-0 in Harrisonburg.
On court No. 3, partners Karly Friedland and Alexandra Nielsen defeated Natalia Nikolopoulou and Hope Moulin of JMU with a 6-3 victory. Penn State duo Sofiya Chekhylstova and Gabby O’Gorman decided the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Daniela Voloh and Michelle Los Arcos.
Partners Olivia Ryan and Yvonne Zuffova fell 1-6 to opponents Daria Afanasyeva and Kylie Moulin on court No.2.
Singles
Penn State dominated singles play earning four wins across the courts. Chekhlystova won an impressive match over Daria Afanasyeva, 6-3, 6-2. Zuffova battled Natalia Nikolopoulou of James Madison, resulting in a three-set victory for Penn State, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. On court No. 4 Friedland defeated Nord, 6-4, 6-4 clinching the match for the Nittany Lions. Nielsen earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5-win over Moulin of James Madison on court No. 5.
