No. 7 USC Men’s Tennis Powers Past No. 13 Georgia, 4-2

A grueling five-hour match that was interrupted early on by inclement weather would eventually go the Trojans way as No. 7 USC men’s tennis defeated No. 13 Georgia on Sunday (Feb. 5) at the USTA National Campus in Florida. 
 
With the win, USC is now 6-0 to start the season and holds an 18-13 all time advantage over the Bulldogs.  
 
For the second day in a row the Trojans dropped the doubles point, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. USC struck first as No. 12 Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye would defeat No. 19 Bryde/Quinn 6-4 on center court. Georgia fought back to win back-to-back doubles matches on courts two and three, with the doubles point being decided on court two. Bulldog’s Giusca/Henning defeated Peter Makk and Lodewijk Weststrate 7-6(7) to haul in the doubles point. On court three, No. 55 Croyder/Johnston beat Wojtek Marek/Samuel Rubell 6-4. 
 
The first point of the day for the Trojans would come from center court as No. 79 Stefan Dostanic would defeat No. 1 Ethan Quinn 6-3, 6-2 to tie up the score. Seconds later No. 38 Peter Makk put USC in front, beating Bulldog No. 10 Philip Henning with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. In true fight on fashion, Wojtek Marek defeated No. 70 Teodore Giusca 6-7(5), 7-6(4), 6-0 on court three to put the Trojans one point away from victory. Ryan Colby sealed the deal for USC with a win over the No. 21 ranked Blake Croyder 7-6(7), 5-7, 6-1. 
 
Georgia’s only singles win of the day came on court four as No. 106 Trent Bryde defeated No. 65 Bradley Frye 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. 
 
Troy now has 8 days until their next match, a 6 p.m. EST road dual against No. 4 Michigan.
