No. 30 Wisconsin grabs win over Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 30 Wisconsin women’s tennis team set a program record of 12-straight wins after defeating Northwestern, 4-3, today, April 5, inside Combe Tennis Center.

The previous win streak record was set in 1996 when the program won 11 straight matches.

Doubles play started with some reshuffling of pairs with Maria Sholokhova/Xinyu Cai in the No. 1 doubles spot and Ellison Reynoldson/Ava Martin playing No. 3 doubles. The Badgers fought hard but ultimately dropped the doubles point against the Wildcats. 

No. 78 Maria Sholokhova came out swinging against her fellow ranked opponent to beat her in straight sets. Ariel Johnson showed dominance from the beginning, leading 4-0 in the first set. She clinched the score-tying point for the Badgers, 6-2, 6-2. Finally, Taylor Cataldi was the key to the Badger win. After two back-and-forth sets, she eventually overcame her opponent to win, 7-5, 6-4 and clinched the win for the team.
