No. 12 MSU Falls In Regular Season Finale At No. 4 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga., – No. 12 Mississippi State began Thursday’s early morning match at fourth-ranked Georgia with a bang.

MSU (19-6, 7-5 SEC) started the day by securing the doubles point but could not carry the momentum into singles, falling 6-1 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Playing in just their third match together, Nemanja Malesevic and Michal Novansky, knocked off the nation’s No. 5 doubles team Trent Bryde and Ethan Quinn 6-2 to even things up after 82^nd-ranked Petar Jovanovic and Ewen Lumsden lost to Teodor Giusca and Philip Henning by the same score.

The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on Court 3 where Gregor Ramskogler and Benito Sanchez Martinez outlasted Blake Croyder and Britton Johnston 7-6(5) to push State into singles with the lead for the second-straight match.

The homestanding Bulldogs, however, were able to battle back and sweep singles to improve to 17-5 overall and 11-0 in SEC play to claim the regular season conference title.

No. 4 Quinn topped 104^th-ranked Malesevic 6-2, 7-5, No. 19 Quinn defeated Jovanovic 7-6(3), 6-3 and Bryde topped No. 112 Carles Hernandez 6-3, 6-4 on the first three courts. No. 105 Croyder knocked off 95^th-ranked Lumsden 6-2, 6-1 while Miguel Perez Pena beat Sanchez Martinez 7-6(4), 6-4 and Giusca downed Ramskogler 6-4, 6-4.

Next up for Mississippi State will be the SEC Championships hosted by Auburn next week. Matt Roberts‘ Bulldogs will find out their seeding and opponent whenever the remainder of this weekend’s matches conclude.
