No. 1 Tar Heels To Face No. 3 Bulldogs In NCAA Semifinals

The Lead: After a win over No. 8 Texas in the NCAA Quarterfinals, the Tar Heels will face No. 3 Georgia in the NCAA Semifinals at the United States Tennis Association’s national campus in Orlando, Florida on Friday, May 19 at 5:30 p.m. The winner between the Tar Heels and Bulldogs will advance to the NCAA National Championship match on Saturday, May 20.

Storylines:

  • The Tar Heels have posted a 2-0 record against the Bulldogs this season. UNC defeated UGA 5-2 during the ITA Kickoff Weekend and 4-0 in the ITA Indoor National Championship match in Seattle.

  • UNC returns to the Final Four for the third straight season and the sixth appearance in program history.

  • Against Texas, Fiona Crawley won her 119th singles match as a Tar Heel. She is now tied with Jenna Long for seventh place in all-time singles victories at UNC. 


From the Notes: Brian Kalbas is second among active coaches, trailing only Georgia’s Jeff Wallace, in most career dual match victories.

Switching Sides:

  • Georgia defeated Michigan 4-0 in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

  • The Georgia women have won two NCAA titles (1994 and 2000) in program history.

  • The Georgia women — which won the 2023 SEC tournament title — received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the 36th-straight year and carry an all-time tournament record of 95-33.
