Multiple Tar Heels Set For US Open Doubles Tournament

FLUSHING, N.Y. – After three wins in the qualifying rounds to earn a bid to the US Open Main Draw, Fiona Crawley fell to Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia 2-6, 4-6 yesterday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Now, Crawley will shift her focus towards the US Open Women’s Doubles Tournament. She will partner with fellow Tar Heel Carson Tanguilig. In May, the duo won the NCAA Doubles Championship.

The current Tar Heels will face the duo of No. 179 Daria Saville and No. 75 Irina Khromacheva on Wednesday.

Crawley and Tanguilig won’t be the only Tar Heel tandem to take the court on Wednesday. Former Tar Heels Jamie Loeb and Makenna Jones are also competing together in the Doubles draw.

Loeb, who is currently ranked the 126th doubles player by the Women’s Tennis Association, was the 2015 NCAA Singles National Champion and ACC Player of the Year while at UNC. Jones, who made an appearance in the US Open Singles Qualifying rounds last week, was the 2021 NCAA Doubles National Champion and is tied for eighth place all-time at UNC with 115 career singles victories.

Loeb and Jones are slated to face the Czech Republic pair of No. 44 Miriam Kolodziejova and No. 194 Linda Noskova.

The first round of the US Open Doubles tournament begins today with the Doubles final slated for September 10.
