STILLWATER, Okla. – Duke redshirt senior Garrett Johns and sophomore Pedro Rodenas advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championship quarterfinals on Wednesday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
Duke’s top doubles pairing defeated No. 10 Isaac Becroft and Tyler Zink of Oklahoma State in a three-set thriller to make them one of eight doubles teams still in the hunt for a national title. Johns and Rodenas recorded a 6-4 victory in their opening set but dropped the second, 6-4, to force a third frame. Fortunately, the No. 1 overall seed rebounded for a 10-1 tiebreak win to claim the victory.
The twosome advance to Thursday’s quarterfinal round and face [5-8] seed Etienne Donnet and Natan Rodrigues of Louisville. Time for that match has yet to be determined.
Live video and live scoring will be available for the contest.
