MSU Captures Four Wins Against The Cowboys


TUSCALOOSA, Ala., – Mississippi State’s men’s tennis team got off to a strong start on the opening day of the SEC-Big 12 Challenge on Friday.

The Bulldogs posted a 4-2 record in their head-to-head matchup against Oklahoma State claiming a pair of singles wins and sweeping doubles.

It was the first time for both of MSU’s doubles pairings to play together. Freshmen Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez edged Isaac Becroft and Chase Ferguson in a tiebreaker 7-6(4) while Patrick Lazo and Gregor Ramskogler handled their business against Leighton Allen and Carl Roothman 6-3.

Jovanovic and Ramskogler carried that momentum into singles as well. Ramskogler claimed a straight-set victory against Roothman 6-4, 7-6(3) while Jovanovic beat Becroft 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

Lazo lost to Allen 6-3, 6-4 in singles and Sanchez Martinez fell to Ferguson 6-2, 6-1.

Mississippi State’s quartet of players will take on Texas Tech on Saturday starting at 10 a.m. The Red Raiders were swept by South Carolina in both singles and doubles on Friday.
