LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men’s tennis team earned its fourth straight home victory to start 2023 Saturday, beating UC Irvine 6-1 at Los Angeles Tennis Center.

It was a two-win day for Patrick Zahraj, who capped his performance with the clinching result on the top court. Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh Tripathi also prevailed on doubles and singles courts, with the pair collaborating to seal the first point of the day for the Bruins (5-1). Enrique Luque Rico picked up the lone victory of the day for the Anteaters (0-3), after the contest was decided.

Zahraj and Giacomo Revelli raced out to a 6-1 win versus Matthew Sah and Noah Zamora on the top court, giving UCLA a leg up with the other matches more closely contested. Fradkin and Tripathi then outlasted Luque Rico and Amiri 6-4 on Court 3, recording their third doubles-point-clinching win of the early season.

The Bruins seized five singles first sets, with four decided by 7-5 or tiebreaker scores. Gianluca Ballotta got past Thomas Smart by a 7-5 margin on Court 5, but then seized all six games of the second set to give UCLA a 2-0 lead. Fradkin then turned in a near-identical showing on Court 6, edging out Sah 7-5 in a tiebreaker and following that effort with a 6-0 second set.

Zahraj kept his singles record unblemished and did so in clinching fashion, downing Zamora 6-4, 6-2 on Court 1. The top-court appearance marked Zahraj’s first of the season. He won three of his four decisions there in 2022.
