Men’s Tennis Opens SEC Tournament against Commodores


Florida is 9-1 all-time in first round matches in the SEC tournament, and have advanced to or appeared in Quarterfinals in 32 of the 33 Tournaments in the history of the event.

 

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Men’s Tennis is slated for a postseason matchup with the No. 40 Vanderbilt Commodores in Baton Rouge to open the 2024 SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament Championship.
 
The No. 25 Gators enter this Thursday’s 3 p.m. EDT postseason match with a 12-10 overall record and a 6-6 conference record.
 
Last Time Out
Florida is coming off of a sweep of the then-No. 21 South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday in Gainesville, sealing an 11-1 home record for the Gators this season. The Gators won the doubles point and singles courts two, four, and six to knock out their third top-25 opponent of the season.
 
The Opponent
The No. 40 Vanderbilt Commodores enter Friday boasting an 13-11 overall record, including a 4-8 conference record, and are coming off of a 4-3 loss to Georgia in Nashville on Sunday. The Gators hold a commanding 49-10-1 advantage in the all-time series, and are currently on a seven-match winning streak against Vanderbilt, dating back to the Gators’ win on April 1, 2016. Florida beat Vanderbilt in their previous matchup this season on April 5 in Gainesville, 4-3. Kevin Edengren sealed the winning point in a straight-sets effort on court six, which netted him SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
 
SEC Tournament History
The Gators have won six conference tournament championships in the 34-year history of the event, most recently in 2022. Florida is 5-1 all-time against the Commodores in SEC Tournament matchups. Florida is 9-1 in First Round matches in program history.
