Men’s Tennis Goes 2-0 on the Day

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon men’s tennis closed out the regular season in dramatic fashion, defeating Arizona State 4-3 and closing out the day with a 6-0 win over Eastern Washington. With the ASU match tied at 3-3, Luke Vandecasteele came back from 4-1 down in the third set to win 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).
 
Match One: The Ducks got a clutch doubles point to start the day after Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele won 6-2 on court one, followed shortly by a 6-4 win from Ivailo Keremedchiev and Jesper Klov-Nilsson to give UO the 1-0 lead. Keremedchiev stayed hot and quickly got the second point of the day, winning 6-3, 6-2. ASU got one back on court one, before Klov-Nilsson won his match 6-4, 7-6(4) to give Oregon a 3-1 lead.
 
Things turned the way of the Sun Devils from there, picking up wins on courts two and six to tie things up at three. The match would come down to Luke Vandecasteele on court five, who dropped his first set, before taking the second 6-2 and forcing a third. Down 4-1 when ASU evened it up at 3-3, Vandecasteele would storm back to tie it at 6-6, forcing a tiebreak. The tiebreak was a quick one, with Vandecasteele sweeping it 7-0 to give the Ducks the win.
 
Match Two: Oregon and Eastern Washington was a repeat of Fridays result, with the Ducks winning 5-1. Nima Movassaghi dropped a nailbiter in the last match of his career, winning the first set 6-1, dropping the second and coming up just short 10-8 in the tiebreaker. The other matches would finish in two sets, with wins from Charlton, Q. Vandecasteele, Keremedchiev, Klov-Nilsson and Avi Shugar.
