Men's tennis ends fall season at Big Ten Individual Championships


ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team ended their fall tournament season with an impressive run at the Big Ten Conference Individual Championships. 

Huber, Minasyan compete at fall nationals

To start off the week, the doubles duo of Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan represented Wisconsin on the west coast at the ITA Fall Nationals after their regional championship victory. The pair fell to Louisville’s Will Maywe and David Mizrahi in the round of 32, but picked up a win in the consolation round of 16 against North Carolina’s Brian Cernoch and Ryan Seggerman 7-6(5), 7-6(5). 
 

Badgers win 13 at Big Ten Individual Championships

The rest of the team ended the season with a bang, picking up 13 wins during the final tournament of the fall season. 
 
Senior Sebastian Vile stole the show, playing his way into the singles final. He started his run with a pair of quick two-set matches, defeating Nebraska’s Will Gleason 6-3, 6-1 and then Northwestern’s Gleb Blehker 6-4, 6-4. In the quarterfinals Vile bounced back after dropping the first set 6-4 to Indiana’s Ilya Tiraspolsky, taking two straight sets 6-0, 6-4 to win the match. Vile dominated in the semifinals, easily beating Nebraska’s Roni Hietaranta 6-4, 6-1 before a tough three-set loss to Northwestern’s Ivan Yatsuk in the finals, 2-6, 6-4, 2-6. 
 
In doubles, Vile and his partner Robin Parts advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over duos from Nebraska and Northwestern.
 
Mihailo Popovic, Jared Pratt, and Parts all picked up singles wins in the main draw. Popovic and Pratt played their way into the round of 16 before dropping to impressive conference opponents.
