South Beach Serves Up Ranked Wins

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — No. 21 Vanderbilt women’s tennis notched multiple ranked wins on day one of the Miami Spring Invite.

The Dores began the day with a 6-0 doubles sweep as the pair of junior Bridget Stammel and sophomore Valeria Ray cruised to victory over NC State’s Jasmine Conway and Gabia Paskauskas. It is the duo’s first shutout victory of the 2024-25 season.

Junior Sonya Macavei and freshman Trinetra Vijayakumar also netted a doubles win Friday, downing Mia Slama and Anna Zyryanova of NC State 6-2.

In singles, senior Célia-Belle Mohr bounced back after an earlier doubles loss to take down No. 14 Julia Garcia Ruiz of Oklahoma 6-2, 7-5. Mohr leads all members of the team with four total ranked wins this season, three of which are top-15 triumphs. No. 78 ranked Ray captured the other singles victory of the day for the Dores, defeating Oklahoma’s Chloé Noël 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. The Miami native went 2-0 in the opening day of her homecoming event.

Vanderbilt returns to the courts at Coral Gables, Florida tomorrow with singles play set for an 8 a.m. start versus NC State. The Dores then face host school Miami in doubles at not before 10:30 a.m. Live streaming is available online, with day two live stats accessible here at the start of tomorrow’s matches.
