Tennis Closes Day One at FIU Invitational


COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri tennis completed day one of the FIU Invitational on Friday, Jan. 10 in Miami. The Tigers secured a doubles win and four singles wins to kick off the invite.

Missouri started the day with doubles action as preseason ranked No. 112 Inah Canete and Korina Roso walked away with the 6-1 win over Baidaulet and Simeva of FIU. The Tigers battled in three more doubles matchups but could not seal the win.

Moving to singles, Mizzou saw Canete keep up the pace and defeat Smejkal of Florida Atlantic. Freshmen Gian Octa, Zoe Lazar and Sarah Hartel also earned wins on day one. Octa and Lazar finished in straight sets, while Hartel battled through a third set to clinch the match.

Freshman Korina Roso and senior Sophia McLellan played hard-fought three-set matches, with Roso’s third set going down to the very end, finishing 7-5 in favor of Cortes from Houston.
