Men’s Tennis Continued Play at Home Tournament


SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men’s tennis team continued to play on day two of the Utah Invite #2 on Saturday afternoon. 
 
In doubles, the duo of Geremia Rossi and Rian Ta battled against Stijn Paardekooper and Roko Savin of Utah State. Utah’s team came out strong and earned an outstanding 8-2 double victory over the Aggies duo. Dylan Applegate and Charlie Spina battled Tristian Sarap and Elyes Marouani of Weber State but fell 8-5. 
 
In singles, Spina came away with a big win. Spina matched up against Sarap and won the first set 6-4. He then claimed the second set 6-3 to earn the victory. 
 
Applegate had a battle with Marouani in singles. Applegate took the first set, 7-5, in their singles match. However, Marouani bounced back and won the second set, 6-4, forcing a third set. Marouani came away with a 6-4 win in the third set. 
 
TA battled against Utah State’s Roko Savin in singles. Savin took the first set 6-2. The second set was a back-and-forth affair as it would into a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Savin edged Ta 7-5 and won the match, 6-2, 7-6 (5). 
 
Rossi matched against Paardekooper of Utah State in a tight singles match. Paardekooper came away with a 6-3 win in set one and clinched the match with a 6-4 in the second set win. 
 
The third and final day of the Utah Invite #2 is Sunday, with the matches starting at 10 a.m. MT with doubles followed by singles.

Roko Savin (USU) def. Rian Ta (UU), 6-2, 7-6 (7)
Elyes Marouani (WSU) def. Dylan Applegate (UU), 5-7, 6-4, 6-4
Charlie Spina (UU) def. Tristian Sarap (WSU), 6-4, 6-3
