TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Tennessee men’s tennis standouts Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno are primed to take part in the ITA Sectional Championships, hosted at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.
The 2024 ITA Sectional Championships will include a singles draw of 32 players and 16 doubles teams. From this event, six singles players from each section (24 total) will earn a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship, including the semifinalists and the two quarterfinal playoff winners. Additionally, three doubles teams from each section (12 total) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship, consisting of the champion, finalist and third-place finishers.
The duo of Kotzen and Moreno earned the second overall seed of the doubles main draw and will go up against Julien Penzlin and Aleksi Lofman of LSU at 2:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. Most recently, the pair of newcomers reached the doubles final of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, narrowly missing out on a championship.
Moreno, ranked 11th in the nation in singles, will open his time in the singles main draw on Thursday morning, as he is set to face Noah Schlagenhauf of Ole Miss in the first round at 11:15 a.m. ET.
After reaching the final round of singles at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, Kotzen has already qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship alongside fellow Vol Shunsuke Mitsui.
