The award marks the third Lady Vol tennis player to be a CoSIDA Academic All-American in program history, the first since Blakeley Griffith did so in 2007. McGiffin also claimed the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honor since Griffith did so 15 years ago.
“This is yet another incredible honor for Tenika,” head coach Alison Ojeda said. “To be one of just nine tennis players across the country on the Academic All-America team is quite impressive. To accomplish that feat while competing at the top of our lineup in the SEC is outstanding. I feel confident speaking on behalf of the University of Tennessee when I say; Tenika, thank you for all you do for our great University and athletic department.”
McGiffin is one of just six individuals from an SEC member institution to earn a nod to the Women’s At-Large Division I teams, accompanied by Tennessee women’s diver Kara Holt.
McGiffin excelled both on the court and in the classroom for the Lady Vols. As a first-year graduate student, she posted a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Master’s of Sport Management program. She amassed a 18-13 singles record with six ranked victories and had similar success in doubles, going 23-15 and reaching the NCAA Doubles Championship Round of 16 before exiting the draw.
