Malwina Rowinska Named SEC Freshman of the Week


BIRMINGHAM, Alabama– The Southeastern Conference has named Malwina Rowinska Freshman of the Week after an impressive performance over the weekend. Rowinska currently holds an 3-4 record in singles and is now 7-6 in doubles play. This is the second week in a row that Florida has recieved an SEC honor.

Malwina Rowinska went undefeated in doubles play, securing two weekend victories with partner Alicia Dudeney. Rowinska and Dudeney ignited their win streak by defeating No. 36 Arkansas’ Morgan Cross and Anet Koskel 7-5. The duo carried their momentum into Sunday’s contest against No. 53 Inah Canete and Mae Canete grabbing a 6-4 win. With two victories, Rowinska and Malwina played a vital part in Florida securing the double’s point in both weekend matchups.  

Malwina Rowinska also had a strong performance in the singles category starting with a straight set win against Arkansas’ Grace O’Donnell. In the first set, Rowinska pulled away 6-0 and took the second 6-1.

Malwina Rowinska’s second singles contest of the week tested her in the first set at 6-4 before she dominated in the second 6-0. Rowinska is now on a three-match win streak in both the singles and doubles categories. 

As a whole, Florida finished out the weekend with a ranked win against then-ranked No. 51 Arkansas and unranked Missouri.
