Men's Tennis' Miko Eala Wins Big Ten Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men’s tennis senior Miko Eala was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Wednesday. Eala picked up two singles wins and a doubles victory against Big Ten opponents Illinois and Northwestern this past weekend.

On Friday against No. 15 Illinois, Eala stepped up at the top singles spot. He took down the No. 31 ranked player in the nation, Ilinois’ Karlins Ozolins, in a 6-2, 6-2 match.

On Sunday against Northwestern, Eala was the only player to collect two wins for the day. His first match, he played at No. 3 doubles. He fought tough with his partner, Alex Sterin, and defeated the Wildcat duo, 7-6 (5). His win clinched the doubles point for Penn State. In his singles match, he once again played at the top spot, easily defeating his opponent, Northwestern’s Presley Thienemen, 6-3, 6-1, in a quick match.

Eala leads the Nittany Lions with six singles wins this Spring, including a 5-2 mark at No. 1. He also owns four doubles victories.
