Lady Vol Tennis Signs Leyla Britez Risso


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Head coach Alison Ojeda announced the signing of Leyla Britez Risso on Tuesday morning. Britez Risso will join the Lady Volunteers is a mid-year enrollee and will join the squad for the Spring 2023 season.

“With Jarryd Chaplin and I being alumni, it is even more important to the two of us that we bring in high-character student-athletes who are also very good tennis players,” head coach Alison Ojeda said on the signing. “I say with confidence that Layla fits exactly that mold. We are thrilled to add her to the squad this upcoming January and really look forward to her making an immediate impact on our program.”

Britez Risso is the highest ITF-rated juniors player from Paraguay and ranks 112th in the overall juniors rankings. She most recently competed at the US Open Junior Championships in New York, New York and was a participant in the Billie Jean King Cup back in April.

“Through the process of her recruitment we have really gotten to know her and her family,” Ojeda continued. “They are standup people, and we know that she will bring a lot of character and energy to our team this year.”

Britez Risso currently has a 9.77 rating in the Universal Tennis Rating index and picked up a singles championship this summer in the J5 Lamare in Paraguay.

The addition of the newcomer rounds out the Tennessee roster for the Spring 2023 season. In total, four newcomers join the Lady Vol ranks this offseason as UT inked Lauren Anzalotta, Catherine AuliaAshtin Hara and now Britez Risso.
