Krug, Zhang Earn Ranked Wins to Highlight Day Four of ITA All-American


TUSLA, Okla. – Junior Connor Krug and graduate student Andrew Zhang each earned singles wins over nationally ranked opponents on Tuesday to conclude their time at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
 
Zhang opened the day with a straight-set victory over ninth-ranked freshman Louis Bowden of Baylor, 6-4, 6-3 in the qualifying consolation round. Krug then followed that up with a win over No. 83 Mihailo Popovic of Wisconsin during his final match of the tournament. Krug dropped a 6-3 decision in his opening set but was leading 4-3 in the second when Popovic was forced to retire.
 
Graduate student Michael Heller battled with 68th-ranked Petar Jovanovic of Mississippi State but fell 6-3, 7-6 (1) to conclude his time in the qualifying round.
 
Sophomore Pedro Rodenas begins singles play Wednesday in the main draw against Alex Martinez of Oklahoma at 1:30 p.m. Central.
 
Heller and Zhang will team up in the main draw of doubles action on Wednesday and face No. 38 Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted of TCU in their opening match at 3 p.m. Central.
