Jessica Alsola Wins ITA All-American Opener

Jessica Alsola plays in the second round of qualifying singles on Tuesday.


CARY, N.C. – California women’s tennis junior Jessica Alsola began her run in the ITA All-American Championships on Monday with a win in her first qualifying singles match at Cary Tennis Park.
 

Alsola, ranked 47th in the ITA preseason singles poll, defeated Arizona State’s Marianna Argyrokastriti, 7-6(5), 6-1, in the round of 128. She will next face Texas A&M’s 56th-ranked Mia Kupres in the round of 64 on Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET.
 
On Wednesday, Golden Bear junior Katja Wiersholm will partner with Alsola to compete in the doubles main draw at the All-American. The Cal duo is ranked ninth in the ITA preseason doubles poll.
