CARY, N.C. – California women’s tennis star Jessica Alsola won twice in qualifying singles Tuesday to reach the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships at Cary Tennis Park.
On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. PT, the 47th-ranked Golden Bear plays Michigan’s 80th-ranked Lily Jones in the 32-player main draw.
In Tuesday’s qualifying singles round of 64, Alsola defeated Texas A&M’s 56th-ranked Mia Kupres, 6-4, 6-3. She then beat USC’s ninth-seeded and 38th-ranked Eryn Cayetano, 6-0, 6-4, in the round of 32 to advance to the main draw.
The Cal junior also competed in the ITA All-American Championships as a freshman but did not advance out of qualifying singles. Last season, Alsola fell in the first round of the singles main draw and went on to capture the consolation singles championship.
Players that advance to the singles semifinals of the All-American automatically qualify for the ITA National Fall Championships, which are scheduled for Nov. 1-5 in San Diego.
The All-American concludes Sunday.
