WEYMOUTH, Mass. – For the second consecutive match, the University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team posted a sweep of their conference opponent. Today, a road win against Boston College concluded the regular season and moved the Irish to 13-13 on the year and their third win in the last four matches.
In doubles, Notre Dame came out on fire with both #2 and #3 doubles racing out to 5-0 leads while #1 doubles started 4-1 up. The #2 team of Chase Thompson and Nil Giraldez would be first off the court without relinquishing a game while Evan Lee and Yu Zhang would win at #3 6-1 to secure the point. But the top position in the lineup would also play to conclusion as both teams were ranked in the top 20 in the country. Sebastian Dominko and Jean-Marc Malkowski, ranked #12 in the country this week, defeated the #18 team in the country 6-3.
The Fighting Irish would start strong in singles as well taking all six first sets. First off the court was Dominko at the top spot with a 6-3, 6-4 win followed by Zhang, who played #5 singles today, with a 6-2 6-2 victory. Needing one more point, Junior Brian Bilsey would clinch the match at #6 singles with a 7-5, 6-1 win. This is the first match Bilsey was able to complete this season in singles as his other matches were all left incomplete earlier in the year.
The remaining matches would be played to completion and the next two off the court would have the same score. An all-lefty battle at #3 went the way of the Irish as Thompson won 6-3 6-2 before Jamie Corsillo finished at #4 by a duplicate score. Giraldez wrapped up the afternoon and regular season with a three-set victory 6-1, 3-6, 1-0(2) to give the Irish a 7-0 team victory.
