Illini Climb to 7-2 Following Treiber’s Clinch Against Marshall

URBANA, Ill.  – Kasia Treiber clinched a 4-0 win for the Illinois women’s tennis team on Sunday over Marshall from the Atkins Tennis Center. The Fighting Illini have now won four straight matches.

The Fighting Illini climbed to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 at home with Sunday’s victory over Marshall. The Thundering Herd moved to 9-3 with the loss.

Illinois struck first, earning the doubles point for the first time since facing No. 15 Duke on Jan. 20. Megan Heuser and Alice Xu moved up to the top doubles spot and took down their Thundering Herd opposition, 6-1. Heuser and Xu are now 4-0 working together this dual season and 5-0 overall.

McKenna Schaefbauer and Violeta Martinez teamed up for the first time this dual season and would clinch the doubles point for Illinois with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles. The duo trailed 3-2 before winning the last four games.

Kida Ferrari and Josie Frazier were ahead 5-2 when the doubles point was clinched, and play was abandoned.

On the singles courts, Illinois claimed five of the six first sets of action. The Orange and Blue went on to win all three completed second frames.

Ferrari continued her hot streak, claiming a 6-4, 6-0 straight-set decision at No. 6 singles for her third straight win.

On the next court over, Schaefbauer pushed the Illinois lead to 3-0 a moment later. She earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 to climb to 7-1 in dual play and 10-4 overall this season.

Kasia Treiber clinched her third match in the last four outings with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles. Treiber climbed to 5-2 on the dual campaign and 8-7…
