Washington vs. San Diego — POSTPONED
SEATTLE – The 26th-ranked Huskies return to action for the first time since the National Team Indoor Championships this week, and return to the site of their 2022 NCAA Championships appearance, where they’ll look for some payback against Baylor in Waco, Texas. The Huskies and Bears will face off for a third-straight season this Friday at 3 p.m. Pacific time.
Washington was also scheduled to play San Diego on the Waco trip, but the Toreros were unable to make the trip, and the teams will attempt to reschedule the match at another date.
The Huskies are 6-3 after going 1-2 at the ITA National Team Indoors two weeks ago in Seattle, highlighted by the 4-3 win over then-No. 9 Vanderbilt. UW moved to 26th in the ITA polls after the tournament and remained there this week, with Jennifer Kerr and Hikaru Sato entering the singles rankings for the first time at No. 93 and No. 100 respectively.
Last season the Huskies fell at Baylor, 4-2, in the NCAA First Round, although the Dawgs were battling multiple injuries at the time. But only two of the six Huskies who started that match last spring have been regular starters this season: Sato and Sarah-Maude Fortin.
37th-ranked Baylor has a 7-4 record with a trio of 4-3 wins over Rice, DePaul, and Ole Miss, and victories against Harvard, Loyola Marymount, Houston and UTRGV. Both Washington and Baylor dropped matches against Wisconsin and Texas, while Baylor has also dropped matches to Florida and Arkansas. Alina Shcherbinina has gone 6-1 at the No. 1 singles spot, and Isabella Harvison has gone 6-2 mostly at the two and three spots. Harvison is ranked 94th in singles and Shcherbinina is No. 109.
