SEATTLE –
Back for round two, the Husky men’s tennis team hosts Portland State this Saturday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center, in what will be its last home match for nearly a month. Washington started its 2024 dual season last week with a 7-0 sweep and will look for a 2-0 start against the Vikings. First serve is at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
Washington swept Idaho last Sunday without dropping a set in singles and using two rallies on courts two and three to take the doubles point. Five of UW’s six singles starters from 2023 were back in the lineup to start 2024, the only addition being freshman Ivan Sodan who got a win at No. 5 singles in his collegiate debut.
Portland State is playing its season opener against the Huskies, having gone 7-13 overall a year ago.
After Saturday’s match, the men will be on the road for several weeks, not returning home until Feb. 17 against Arkansas. Next week they head to Knoxville, Tenn. for the ITA National Kickoff Weekend, facing 24th-ranked Oklahoma first on Saturday, Jan. 27.
