Hokies triumph over West Virginia

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s tennis team closed out a successful home stand with a 4-0 drubbing of West Virginia on Sunday afternoon.

It was a beautiful 58 degree day in Blacksburg which meant it was time for the first outdoor match of the season at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. Tech shined in doubles with Semra Aksu and Tamara Barad Itzhaki claiming a 6-0 victory followed by another 6-0 win courtesy of Dariya Radulova and Katie Andreini to notch the doubles point.

In singles, Andreini continued to work Court 6 in a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win to add to the Hokies tally. It was more of the same for Özlem Uslu who registered a 6-0, 6-1 win to complete a 2-0 weekend and move the Hokies within one point of clinching. Barad Itzhaki did the honors in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, after an impressive rally against West Virginia’s Michaela Kucharova ended with ball landing just a few inches out to secure the win for Tech.

The win moves the Hokies to 8-1 for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign. Tech is a perfect 8-0 at home this season.
