FSU Defeats No. 20 Georgia Tech in Thriller

ATLANTA– The Florida State women’s tennis team (14-9, 6-6 ACC) defeated No. 20 Georgia Tech (12-8, 6-6 ACC) 4-3 on Friday.

The day began with the match getting pushed back to 5:30 p.m. due to inclement weather.

Florida State started strong at doubles when Millie Bissett and Anna Arkadianou won 6-4 at No. 2. Georgia Tech quickly responded with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.

The Seminoles clinched the doubles point when Kianah Motosono and Olympe Lancelot came back from a 5-3 deficit and won 7-5 at No. 3.

Georgia Tech started out hot in singles, winning four out of six first sets. The Yellow Jackets went on to win at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.

Florida State tied the match back up when Arkadianou defeated the 24th-ranked Kylie Bilchev 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. The Seminoles took the lead after Bissett claimed a 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 5. Georgia Tech went on to win in a second set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles to tie the match at 3-3 and set the No. 6 match as the deciding point.

The Seminoles were able to come away with the victory when Alice Amendola won 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

Florida State returns to action Sunday against Clemson at 11:30 a.m. Live stats and video will be available on Seminoles.com.
