Four Seminoles On All-ACC Academic Team

TALLAHASSEE — Florida State men’s tennis had four student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic Team as Alex Bulte, Jamie Connel, Loris Pourroy, and Barnaby Smith earned All-ACC Academic honors, it was announced Wednesday.

Bulte finished the 2022-23 season with a 6-1 dual record, and had four victories in doubles play. Bulte’s doubles victories against San Diego and UNCW helped Florida State earn the doubles points en route to 4-2 and 7-0 victories. The sophomore won singles matches against Hawaii, Central Florida, Virginia Tech, Boston College, N.C. Central and South Alabama.

Pourroy accumulated eight singles victories over the course of the season, with an undefeated 2-0 record when playing at No. 1. The junior helped Florida State complete a 4-3 comeback victory against Miami with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 win which featured a final tiebreaker score of 12-10, tying the match at three-all. In the NCAA tournament, Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic clinched the doubles point against Baylor after defeating No. 40 Finn Bass and J. P. Grassi Mazzuchi in a 6-4 win.

Connel compiled a 15-6 dual record in the spring season, including a 6-1 record at No. 6. Connel finished with an 8-2 record against ACC opponents, helping Florida State win six straight matches against ACC teams. The sophomore’s 7-6 (1), 6-2 straight-set victory against No. 14 North Carolina at No. 6 helped the Seminoles upset the Tar Heels and advance to the ACC Semifinals.

Smith had a 3-1 singles record in his senior season and earned nine wins with doubles partner Maks Silagy during the spring. Smith earned singles victories against UNCW, N.C. Central, Hawaii and FAU. Smith helped Florida State earn doubles points against No. 64 Clemson and No. 14 North Carolina in the ACC Championships, earning a place in the ACC semifinals against Virginia. A 6-2 doubles victory at No. 3 against Baylor helped the Seminoles earn the doubles point and a 4-0 victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
